Bill Harlan, has been a community college educator for 55 years, specializing in teaching Shakespeare. He has taught all of Shakespeare’s plays to people of all ages. For 37 years he led tours to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival where he was one of the Festival’s frequent and most popular guest lecturers. In those lectures he displayed an unusual ability to present penetrating analyses of the plays and make them immediately accessible to an audience ranging from novices to experts. In addition, he has written adaptations of Hamlet, The Tempest and Taming of the Shrew for the stage. In recent years he has established a program called “Shakespeare at the Movies” for senior citizens, and he helped found a new college.
